It is a long time since I stepped down from the tcr-flow or addiction. Each year following the stories and dots was great fun. My bpm climbed up the ladder the closer each starting day came.
The passion in cycling has never ever stopped. The passion in just cycling longer distances never got less. Reservations of cyclibg together with a big crowd were overcome, finally. So last year in autumn or winter the decision for another application came up. The application process had been fulfilled, tons of question had been answered and the application sent out.
Back into an explorational mindset. Back into finding ways through unknown places. Managing my great respect of Scandinavian heights and conditions that are mostly unknown to me. I have a lack of experience in travelling these nothern mountains, these climate conditions the flora and fauna. This let to four or five options how to cross the land best. It leads into the classic dependencies of travelling speed and planning ahead which I always tried to avoid as much as possible in the past.
It has been said that the flap of a butterfly’s wings in Brazil can set off a tornado in Texas. Same happens during a classic TCR adventure, so many options that ask for refining the strategy for the day. It does not make sense for me the define too many fix point already before the start. Ferries crossing the Baltic Sea do have schedules, of course. From port to port the can differ a lot. From one ferry per hour to once every other day. This brings clear corridors of decision making, or at minimum there gonna be locations on the map when riders (as well as myself) have to decide which track to follow. This year it means strategy first.
The pure figures deliver a feeling of respect and freedom. Between 4.500 and 5.000 kms for travelling from Trondheim to Kalamta. Coping with around 50.000 metres of elevation. Crossing 13-15 countries in the heart of Europe. This just means the world to me because the people that we gonna meet along this breathtaking trip are going to be so warm hearted and willing to help and support. This is what I love most about these trips.
Back in the flow! Looking forward meeting the unknown, soon!
